Up To $5,000 Per Person Heading To Data Breach Victims As US Tech Firm and Other Defendants Reach Major Settlement

A US-based industrial tech company and five other defendants have agreed to settle a class action lawsuit filed over a data breach that happened about two years ago.
According to the newly updated settlement administrator’s portal, Fortive Corporation and five other firms – Accruent, Advanced Sterilization Products Services, Advanced Sterilization Products, Censis Technologies and Industrial Scientific Corporation – will pay out $3 million to settle a lawsuit filed over a data breach that took place between January 25th of 2023 and November 6th of 2023.
The lawsuit accused Fortive Corporation and the five other defendants of failing to “maintain adequate systems and procedures to ensure the security of the highly sensitive PII [personally identifying information] of its employees and consumers,” resulting in unauthorized individuals accessing highly sensitive data of more than 31,000 people.
Settlement class members who submit claims accompanied by supporting documentation will be eligible to receive up to $5,000 as reimbursement for losses they incurred as a result of the data breach. The time used in addressing the data breach, including “time spent acquiring credit freezes, remedying actual fraud, monitoring statements,” will also be reimbursed at a rate of up to $20 per hour for a maximum of four hours.
Victims are also eligible to receive identity theft protection services, including identity theft insurance worth at least $1 million.
There will also be a cash payment available that will be determined on a pro rata basis for all the settlement class members.
Claims must be submitted by December 19th. The final approval hearing will be held on January 9th of 2026.
Though Fortive Corporation and the other five defendants have agreed to settle, they deny any wrongdoing.
