Binance.US has hit back at Senator Chris Murphy after he accused the White House of corruption following President Donald Trump’s pardon of Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, aka CZ.

Murphy made the remarks on X, calling the White House a “24/7 corruption machine” after Binance.US announced it would open deposits for USD1, a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial, and began trading a USD1/USDT pair.

On the same day, Binance.US announced that deposits for WLFI have also been opened and that trading for a WLFI/USDT pair would begin at the same time.

“One week after Trump pardoned Binance’s owner (for a stunning array of crimes related to terrorist and sex predator financing), Binance starts promoting Trump crypto,” said Murphy on X. ”The White House is a full time, 24/7 corruption machine.”

Binance Says No Political Motive Behind Listings

Binance.US denied any political motive, saying the listings were “approved for some time” through its usual review process. It added that more than twenty major exchanges, including Coinbase and Bybit, have also listed the tokens.

“It’s unfortunate that even routine business decisions are now unfairly politicized by our elected officials,” Binance.US said, rejecting suggestions the listings were coordinated or politically driven. ”To be clear, this was a business decision on the part of @BinanceUS and nothing more.”

It said it conducts “comprehensive due diligence and legal review before listing any asset,” adding that it’s the same whether the token is a stablecoin, belongs to an ecosystem, or is a meme coin.

Senators Say Binance And CZ ‘Cozying’ Up To Trump

In a recent open letter, senators including Elizabeth Warren and Bernard Sanders demanded more information about CZ’s pardon from the US Department of Justice.

They said that Binance and Zhao “began cozying up to the President and his family through a series of financial deals” as Trump’s presidential campaign started to gain momentum.

In the letter, the senators pointed to various meetings between Zhao and Trump’s associates, and said Binance helped develop crypto products that “provided President Trump and his family with a revenue stream worth millions of dollars.”

This, they suggested, is why Trump ultimately pardoned Zhao even after the criminal activity he “admitted to conducting.”

CZ Mulls Libel Action Against Elizabeth Warren

Warren has been one of the most vocal senators when it comes to criticizing Trump’s decision to pardon Zhao.

In response to her criticism, Zhao is reportedly weighing a libel action for alleged defamatory comments that the Senator made online.

“Mr. Zhao will not remain silent while a United States Senator seemingly misuses the office to repeatedly publish defamatory statements that impugn his reputation,” CZ’s lawyer wrote in a draft letter.
