Is Chase’s Mobile Check Deposit Instant? No. Here’s How Long It Takes

Chase’s mobile app makes it easy to deposit checks without visiting a branch or ATM. All you have to do is take a quick photo of the front and back of your check directly through the Mobile Deposit feature in the app. But how long does the deposit take to clear?

How fast is Chase’s mobile check deposit?

Chase’s mobile check deposit is not instant, but it’s relatively fast. If you mobile deposit a check before 11:00 p.m. (ET) on a business day, the funds are usually available the next business day. Deposits made after 11:00 p.m. (ET) or on weekends or holidays are processed the following business day.

In some situations, deposits may clear sooner at Chase’s discretion, but most follow this one-business-day timeline. Larger checks, new accounts or unusual transactions may face longer holds of up to a few business days.

Chase is the largest bank in the US with a robust mobile app, but its mobile check deposit speeds are not instant.

Can an instant mobile check deposit be delayed?

Yes. Even if a bank typically clears mobile check deposits quickly, delays can happen.

Common reasons include being a new customer, depositing a check after the daily cutoff time, submitting a check type that isn’t accepted (like money orders or third-party checks) or depositing a large amount that exceeds daily limits. Funds may also be held if your account is overdrawn, if the bank needs to verify the check’s legitimacy or if there are technical issues with processing.

What types of checks does Chase accept for mobile deposit?

Chase accepts most standard US checks through mobile deposit, but there are some limitations. In general, you can deposit:

  • Personal checks (payable to you)
  • Business checks
  • Cashier’s checks
  • Government checks (such as tax refunds or other US Treasury checks)

However, Chase does not allow certain check types to be deposited through the app, including:

  • International checks
  • Traveler’s checks
  • Money orders
  • US savings bonds
  • Third-party checks (made out to someone else, then signed over to you)

So, if you’re depositing a typical personal or business check in US dollars from a US bank, you should be able to use Chase’s mobile deposit feature. For anything outside that, you’ll need to visit a branch.

Alternatives to instant mobile check deposit

If you find yourself needing faster access to your funds and your bank’s mobile deposit isn’t instant, here are some alternatives:

These options can be useful if you can’t wait for your bank’s standard deposit timeline, though they may come with extra costs.

  • Check-cashing services or retailers. Places like Walmart or dedicated check-cashing stores can give you cash right away, though they usually charge a (sometimes hefty) fee.
  • Deposit at a bank or ATM directly. Visiting a branch or using an ATM may speed up processing compared to mobile deposits, especially if you’re depositing during business hours.
  • Mobile check deposit apps. Services like Ingo Money App or banks partnered with it (such as GO2bank) let you cash checks from your phone for a fee, often making the money available within minutes.

These options can be useful if you can’t wait for your bank’s standard deposit timeline, though they may come with extra costs.

Bottom line

Chase’s mobile check deposit is not instant, but most funds are available by the next business day if deposited before the daily cutoff. While that’s fairly quick, it’s not the same as same-day or instant access.

If you need money right away, alternatives like check-cashing services, in-person deposits or a mobile check-cashing app may be better options, though they often come with fees.
